Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding has been installed on homes since it was introduced in the 1940’s.  In fact, many homes built through the 70’s are outfitted with aluminum siding.  Over the years, the material has evolved into a highly desirable and popular option for homes.  While it maintains dominance as being one of the most common forms of siding today, there are competing alternatives. Aluminum is oftentimes compared against vinyl because of similarities in appearance and composition.

As with any siding material, there are pros and cons.  Here are some of the benefits and drawbacks to using aluminum siding on a home:

  • Virtually maintenance free aside from recommended yearly power washing.
  • Material is weather-resistant even in the most extreme temperatures.
  • Aluminum will not rot or rust.
  • Aluminum is waterproof and fireproof.
  • Affordable; moderately priced.
  • Insulated panels are available for increased energy efficiency.
  • The primary complaints against aluminum siding is that it dents easily and doesn’t do as well of a job blocking outside noise.
